L’arte di Seki – la continuazione di un progetto tra la Prefettura di Gifu & atelier oï

La Prefettura di Gifu rivela il know-how tradizionale della manifattura artigianale nipponica, soffermandosi sulla coltelleria. L’arte di Seki offre un’esperienza basata su contrasti culturali. Per un breve periodo, la mostra CASA GIFU II ricolloca questa regione del Giappone nel cuore del quartiere di Brera. La fusione tra lo studio di design svizzero atelier oï e l’artigianato giapponese si trasforma in oggetti e installazioni scenografiche.

Attraverso questa partnership, il progetto focalizza l’attenzione su un’altra area dell’oasi artigianale e industriale della Prefettura di Gifu, città nota come Seki. In collaborazione con una tra le più anziane forge della regione, atelier oï ha sviluppato una katana, opera centrale della mostra, sintetizzando in questo modo lo scambio tra la maestria e le sensibilità artistiche. 

Presentando strumenti metallici antichi e contemporanei di SekiCASA GIFU II ospita l’artigianato e i materiali e metodi di fabbricazione. In questo contesto, la tradizione cartaria anche verrà esplorata con un’installazione mobile.

Questa mostra offre un nuovo modo per guardare la storia dell’artigianato e ripensare l’esperienza manifatturiera ancestrale, allo scopo di sostenere un design culturale e locale.

GIFU PREFECTURE

Known as the soul of Japan, the GIFU Prefecture is located on the island of Honshu. Its resources are a reflection of its rich and plural region. They span a wide range of craft and industrial traditional know-hows historically related to its natural abundant in water environment such as ceramics, wood-working, lacquer painting, forging, paper-making, cormorants fishing and gastronomy.

HIDA SANGYO CO. LTD

HIDA Sangyo is a well-established furniture manufacturer founded in 1920. Inheriting the skills and traditions of Hida artisans, the company keeps challenging "new monozukuri" with its own technologies. Recently, HIDA Sangyo has been active in eco-conscious manufacturing, using materials that have never been used. For example, we produce furniture from domestically-grown cedar by heat-compression.

MOLZA CORPORATION

Using the characteristics of Japanese paper, MOLZA produces various types of highly functional paper products. Recently, in addition to paper itself, the company has begun manufacturing creative products with excellent designs in order to meet the needs of the time. MOLZA has also been developing a new market in cosmetics, such as free cut face paper, oil blotting paper with a faint fragrance of green tea, a new type of deodorant paper, smartphone cleaners, and nail polishing sheets.

OZEKI & CO. LTD

Since its foundation in 1891, as a Gifu specialty lantern maker, OZEKI has expanded its market both in Japan and overseas. Based on our business performance and distinctive techniques, our products have been highly acclaimed, which is evidenced by over a hundred awards won at various domestic and international exhibitions. For its achievements, the company was granted the Blue Ribbon Medal (Ranju hosho) in 1931 and the Fifth Class Order of the Sacred Treasure in 1943. We are devoted to developing new products, which has led to several dozens of patents, utility models, and design registrations. We deliver our Gifu lanterns (traditional Bon festival lanterns) to department stores nationwide, as well as exporting the Isamu Noguchi “AKARI” products to the US and European countries. We are always seeking for new opportunities. This is the Ozeki’s will that has been inherited across the generations.

SEKI CITY

Located in the centre of Gifu Prefecture, Seki is famous worldwide for its production of fine knives, ranking alongside Solingen in Germany. The DNA of Seki’s swordsmithing has been continuously passed on to modern-day bladesmithing for over 780 years, and Seki City has prospered as one of the greatest blade capitals of the world.
